Stage 8: Norwood to Bogawantalawa – Exploring the Golden Valley of Tea

    Embark on a moderate 15.8km trek on Stage 8 of the Pekoe Trail, journeying from Norwood to Bogawantalawa. This stage takes you through the heart of the “Golden Valley of Tea,” offering stunning views of the Maskeliya Valley, glimpses of Adam’s Peak, and a rich tapestry of tea estates, villages, and cultural landmarks.

    Your hike begins in Norwood, the gateway to the Bogawantalawa Valley. The trail ascends towards a ridge that divides the Bogawantalawa and Maskeliya Valleys. The Maskeliya Valley, renowned for its beauty, is also home to the sacred Adam’s Peak.

    From the ridge, the trail descends into the Bogawantalawa Valley, leading you along smaller paths towards the Kew Estate. Here, you’ll find a charming colonial-era tea factory. The scenery unfolds with views of the countryside towards Bogawantalawa town, showcasing abundant tea fields, quaint village roads, a picturesque church, Hindu kovils, and charming cottages. The stage concludes in Bogawantalawa, the town that lends its name to the entire valley, surrounded by mist-shrouded mountains and emerald landscapes.
